Why do we get under eye puffiness? How to reduce under eye puffiness? How to treat under eye puffiness?

Under eye puffiness is often pathetic in the morning and it does get resolved by itself within few hours, as the accumulated fluid drains with the help of gravity and time. Generally under eye puffiness is not a sign of a serious medical condition. But in some instances, if there is pain, swelling, long lasting and if it’s getting worse over time then it may be the sign of a more serious condition and you should visit a doctor at the earliest.

Under eye puffiness occurs due to many reasons like:

·         aging,

·         fat deposits,

·         poor diet,

·         accumulation of fluid,

·         genetic factor,

·         rubbing eyes,

·         seasonal allergies,

·         stress,

·         crying,

·         eating packaged and processed foods

·         due to over consumption of alcohol,

·         lack of sleep,

·         irritants in the air,

·         eye fatigue,

·         too much sun exposure,

·         sinus problems,

·         individual skin conditions

·         eating salty food

Myths:

·  There are many products in the market which claim to help reduce puffiness under the eyes/ de-puff the eyes, but they are actually not effective.

·    Many people think that the cooling effect of cucumber can actually help reduce the puffiness of the eyes. They only provide a temporary relief. But there is no scientific evidence for this claim.
