Skin care tips in winter

 

Winter’s harsh dry air steals the moisture and natural oils from your skin, leaving it lifeless, dry, dull, itchy, and your scalp becomes flaky. Dry skin during winter season leads to many problems like rashes, redness, flaking, etc. If we don’t take proper care of our dry skin, it can lead to cracking and bleeding of skin.

 


Things to avoid:

·         Avoid marks or peels that contain alcohol.

·         Taking hot showers or baths- as hot air dries out your skin by robbing its natural oil.

·         Avoid direct exposure to cold winds and snow.

·         Avoid direct exposure to winter sun

·         Avoid wearing wet shoes or clothes for too long as they may cause skin irritation and itchiness.

·         Avoid coffee, smoking and alcohol

·         Avoid chemical filled soaps with harsh ingredients

·         Avoid long hot showers and baths

·         If your skin is really very dry then you should not exfoliate it

·         Avoid using the products that are not suited to your skin

Tips which need to be followed to keep the skin youthful and smooth are:

·         Moisturize your skin immediately after shower so that the moisturizer seals the dampness into the skin

·         Winter skin is extremely fragile so avoid anything that irritates the skin

·         Use petroleum jelly or moisturizing balm to protect your lips from cracking

·         Use lukewarm water for bathing purposes

·         Wear good quality UV protected sunglasses whenever you go out as winter sun can be harmful to the skin around your eyes and cause many skin related issues like fine lines, dark circles, etc

·         Choose gentle cleansers that contain moisturizers so that you can maintain the skins natural moisture barrier

·         One should follow a daily skin care routine so that you can lock the moisture and enjoy your winter

·         Exercise in all forms increases the blood circulation in the skin

·         Use hydrating mild scrub to exfoliate the dead skin

·         Always wear gloves, socks and sweaters to protect skin from cold winds

·         Use sunscreen lotion (which contains zinc oxide or titanium oxide) regularly, as direct exposure to winter sun would cause a lot of damage to your skin.

·         Wear clothes which are comfortable, soft and breathable material.

·         Keep your skin hydrated by drinking water at regular intervals

·         Eat food which is rich in omega 3 fatty acid, iron, vitamin A,B and E and add spinach and dark leafy vegetables

·         Moisture your skin at night after which wear a sweater and socks to seal the moisture until morning

·         Use oil rich moisturizers with hydrating ingredients like jojoba, olive, tea tree oil, almond oils, rose oil, etc. You can also coconut oil/ ghee/ milk and milk cream to moisturize your skin.

·         Use mild moisturizing soaps like dove, pears, etc

·         Carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato etc should be a part of your daily diet as they contain antioxidant and beta- carotene.

·         Try homemade skin care masks and face packs which contain natural ingredients like tomato, papaya, aloe vera, banana, etc which maintain the moisture levels in your skin and help it glow. Use can also mix honey and sugar and gentle massage on your skin increase the blood circulation in skin

·         Choose glycerin based creams to moisturize your feet and also occasionally exfoliate the skin on your feet so that it can easily absorb the moisture.

·         One should take care of their diet and eat healthy fat free food. They can also include more of salads, fruits, fruit juices, soups, milk, and vegetables in their daily diet plan.
